Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and friends inspired me as a child. When all the other girls would be checking out the newest babysitter's club books, I would rotate through the four large Peanuts books that had comic strip after comic strip printed in them. I loved how these charming characters did not know they were funny. I loved that they where not over the top happy all the time. They were real. I loved the life lessons they taught. I was inspired by their Christmas special we recorded on VHS that I would watch routinely throughout the year. How amazing that these cartoon children testified of Christ and promoted good will!! I even remembering thinking that even though the jazzy music that accompanied the short movie did not sound christmasy, it was still played throughout the Christmas season. Charles Schultz influenced our culture in such a positive way, and I wanted to be just like him.
My husband's dream was to be a doctor. A heart surgeon to be exact. Not many of us are blessed to have a clear and inspired direction in life starting at a young age, but my husband was. To say he was predestined to do what he does is not too far off. I can catch myself being jealous of his path in life. It has been a hard, steep road, but always straight and steady. I need to remind myself that dreams are important, even if they do not take the exact path you thought they would at age eight. No, I am not drawing a daily comic strip in the papers, but I can appreciate the values behind that dream. I wanted to change the world for good by inspiring others to look to Christ, by sharing artistic talents, and by uplifting others by being real. I can cary these dreams through everything I do and can use them to motivate me to be better.
